The annual application periods for incoming exchange students are:
For the academic year or autumn semester
- April 1 - April 15: citizens of non-EU countries/EEA-member states (by midnight Helsinki local time).
- April 1 - May 15: citizens of EU/EEA-member states and Switzerland (by midnight Helsinki local time).
For the spring semester
- September 1 - September 30: citizens of non-EU countries/EEA-member states (by midnight Helsinki local time).
- September 1 - October 15: citizens of EU/EEA-member states and Switzerland (by midnight Helsinki local time).
If you are a citizen of a non-EU country, please refer to our section "Residence Permit for Exchange and Visiting Students" on our website for more information regarding the procedures to acquire a residence permit for your studies in Finland. Please remember to apply according to the non-EU application deadline if you are a non-EU citizen enrolled at an EU institution.
The application period for visiting students coming to do supervised research or a traineeship is ongoing. Students should apply two months prior to their stay the latest. Please note that visiting students wishing to attend courses have the same application period and deadline as exchange students (see above). For studies beginning in the autumn semester, please do not apply before April 1st.

The exchange period includes 2-3 day long, mandatory orientation week.
