Belgium sits at the crossroads of Western Europe, with fast rail links to Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Cologne—ideal for weekend trips. Brussels, Leuven/Louvain, and Ghent offer compact, walkable city centers, excellent cycling infrastructure, and reliable public transport. The cultural mix of Dutch- and French-speaking communities creates a rich scene of museums, festivals, cafés, and music, alongside Belgium’s famous food culture (chocolate, waffles, fries, and diverse beer traditions). Student life is active year-round, with international societies, affordable campus events, and a strong English-friendly environment in academic settings. Costs are moderate to higher by continental standards: housing varies by city, but everyday expenses and cultural activities remain manageable with student discounts. Coastal dunes, historic towns, and nearby Ardennes forests add accessible nature and weekend escapes.
