The Netherlands

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

The Netherlands offers a highly international, English-friendly study environment across cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, Leiden, Groningen, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Wageningen, and Tilburg. Its compact size and excellent rail and bus networks make domestic travel easy, with fast overland links to Belgium, Germany, France, and the UK (via Eurostar). Distinctive cycling culture sets the country apart: safe bike lanes, flat terrain, and student-friendly infrastructure make cycling the most practical daily commute. Everyday life is orderly and safe, with vibrant cultural scenes and active student associations. Costs are moderate to higher by continental standards, especially housing in major cities, but student discounts help with transport and culture. Nature is accessible through coastal dunes, Wadden Islands, rivers, and polder landscapes, ideal for day trips and weekend rides.
