International Law, Optional study module (15 cr)

It is possible to complete a 15-credit optional study module in international law. The module consists of a compulsory course Principles of International Law (5 credits) and two optional 5-credit courses in international law, which are taken after the compulsory course. The application period for the module is from 1 to 15 April 2026.

  • ON-J226 Principles of International Law (5 cr)

Optional courses (10 credits; 5 credits + 5 credits) For example, you can include these courses in your international law, optional study module:

International Environmental Law, International Human Rights Law, Law of the Sea, Law of Treaties, International Economic Law.

Once you have completed the module, request the compilation of the module by sending a request to porthania-student@helsinki.fi (please indicate in the message which optional module you have completed and which International Law courses you have taken).

The application period is organised once a year, and the next application period is from 1 to 15 April 2026 by 15.00:

Please note: Admission is not granted for individual courses, but students from other faculties must apply for the modules listed above.

Applicants will be informed of the results of the selection by 31 May 2026 at the latest.
