Sisu instructions: graduation request through a degree programme code

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

As a rule, the graduation request should be submitted when all studies have been completed and recorded in Sisu. However, you can submit a graduation request through a degree programme code when you have completed all your studies but the last study entries are still missing from the register. This may be necessary, for example, if your right to study is about to expire or if, for other compelling reasons (e.g., student loan compensation), your graduation date must fall in the month when you completed your final credits. You can submit a graduation request only in the primary study plan of your study right.

Please see also instructions for graduation in your degree programme.

Please note these matters

  • The Student Services can register your degree also after your study right has ended as long as all the credits required for your degree have been completed before the end of the study right. Please don't forget to check the faculty-specific graduation instructions.
  • Only in exceptional cases can you request graduation even if you are missing single credits as long as the structure of your study plan is in order. In this case, mention the missing credits in the graduation request’s additional information.
  • If you make changes in your study plan after submitting a graduation request, these changes no longer have an influence on your graduation request.
  • If you have, for example, submitted a graduation request in the wrong degree programme or specialisation, your request will be rejected and you will be directed to edit your study plan to correspond with your study right.

When can I submit a graduation request?

You can technically submit a graduation request anytime when your study plan is in one of the following statuses:

  • Selections made
  • Parts completed
  • Selections approved
  • Selections approved, parts completed
  • Selections approved conditionally
  • Selections approved conditionally, parts completed.

Please note that the text has to be visible next to your degree programme’s name. It is not enough that a part or some parts of your study plan are in the right status. Additionally, there can be a text ‘Selections missing’ next to the study right’s name if you have a study right for both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree and you are submitting a graduation request for your Bachelor’s degree. In this case, the ‘Selections missing’ note does not prevent you from graduating.

Fill in a graduation request

A graduation request is opened on the Structure of studies page:

  1. Click on the code of your degree programme in the structure. Note: If you click on the code in the selection assistant, you will not be able to apply for graduation.

Screen capture of the degree programme's code in the structure.
  2. Scroll down on the opening page and open an accordion menu called ‘Graduation’.
  3. Click the Request for graduation button. Please note that changes made in your study plan after submitting a graduation request no longer have an influence on the content of your graduation request.
