You can have lunch at discounted student prices on all campuses. The student discount is available to all undergraduate (bachelor’s and master’s) students registered for attendance as well as exchange students. Click here for information on lunch discounts for postgraduate students. Further information on meal subsidies can be found on the website of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela).

You will be entitled to student prices by showing your student card (or, in its absence, an attendance certificate or a certificate of student status) at the till.

Sodexo

UniCafe

UniCafe cafeterias serve lunch on all campuses. All UniCafe cafeterias also offer a range of cakes, pastries and other sweet treats. Lunch is served not only around midday: you can also visit UniCafe Kaivopiha at the City Centre Campus on weekday evenings and Saturdays.

Sodexo

Sodexo operates in the University of Helsinki Main Building. You can start the day at the pop-up café on Aleksanterinkatu and enjoy lunch in the cafeteria between classes or other activities. For the lunch menu and prices, please see the Sodexo website.

At the Sodexo cafeteria, you can also use a mobile app to pay for your lunch at student prices. The MySodexo mobile app is a contactless service that allows you skip the queue and enjoy a smooth lunch experience. Download the app in good time before arriving at the cafeteria. Activating the student discount in MySodexo requires that you start using the Pivo student card and use the Pivo payment app for identification.

How to start using the MySodexo app:

  1. Download Pivo from Google Play or the App Store.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, open the Palvelut (‘Services’) menu and select Opiskelijakortti (‘Student card’).
  3. Confirm your student status by entering the link you can obtain from the My Studyinfo service in the section Jaa suoritustietoja (‘Share information on studies’).
  4. Download MySodexo from Google Play or the App Store.
  5. Enter the contact details requested by the app and tap on Tunnistaudu Pivolla (‘Identification with Pivo’). Once you have done so, all prices shown will include the student discount.
  6. Select your lunch in the MySodexo app and pay with Pivo.
  7. Verify the payment at the cafeteria by scanning the QR code created by MySodexo.
