Students’ responsibilities in studies

The instruction belongs to the following themes

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

As a student you have responsibilities such as attending classes and turning in your assignments.

Attend classes

As a student, you must actively attend the classes included in your courses. The course information (e.g., on the course page) indicates whether attendance is mandatory and the amount of teaching you are required to attend. Compulsory attendance can apply to a course or its component.

If you cannot attend all of the classes in the course, the teacher will give you additional assignments to compensate for this.

Turn in your study-related assignments on time

The teacher must announce the required format and deadline for all study-related assignments. If you do not turn in assignments within the set deadline, the teacher is under no obligation to accept the assignment later. The teacher may reject your assignment and require you to retake the related classes.

Complete courses on time

More information about the schedules for completing courses can be found in the instructions for the expiry of studies.

Be honest

All forms of dishonesty and plagiarism in studies are forbidden, and all suspicions of dishonesty and plagiarism will be investigated. The University of Helsinki also employs a plagiarism recognition system. For more information, read the section on cheating and plagiarism.
