Transferring to another doctoral programme
Doctoral studies are a long-term project, and the topic and aims of students’ dissertations often change or are refined in the process. During their studies, doctoral students can apply for a transfer to another doctoral programme for well-grounded reasons.

Sometimes the topic of a doctoral dissertation or Licentiate thesis requires complementary studies at another university.

Attendance registration of doctoral students
All degree students must register as attending or non-attending for each academic year, regardless of whether they are pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral degree.
Monitoring of doctoral study progress
The University of Helsinki monitors the progress of its doctoral students when six years have passed since their right to pursue doctoral studies was issued.
