Bulletin 13.5.2025

Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO, Trade Union Pro, and Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors JHL have announced a strike affecting the University of Helsinki, which will be carried out on 27.5.2025 between 00:01 and 23:59.

The background of the action is the prolonged negotiations related to the general collective agreement for universities, which are now being resolved under the guidance of the national conciliator.

The strike will proceed if no agreement on a new collective agreement is reached before then. If the strike takes place, it will generally apply to all work tasks at the University. However, the following tasks are excluded from the strike:

  1. Essential care for humans, animals, samples, and living collections
  2. Standby duty and associated work related to the unsupervised use and monitoring of computers and networks as per standby agreements and essential maintenance of data services to ensure the immediate safety of properties and living materials
  3. Research work whose interruption would cause significant damage
  4. Employees working abroad or attending conferences
  5. Doctoral candidate, opponent and custos
  6. University vice-rectors and deans
  7. Clinical teachers

Tasks that, if left undone, could pose a danger to human life or health or compromise safety or property are also excluded from the strike.

If the strike is postponed to a date after May 31, 2025, work conducted in training schools will be excluded from the strike.

We at the University of Helsinki hope that the negotiators reach an agreement as soon as possible.
