Christmas concert: ”Christmas Under the Stars”
The National Library's events for the year will conclude on December 12 with a Christmas concert – "Christmas Under the Stars", held in the Cupola-hall. The music is be provided by the National Library's 2024 Cultural Partner, Academic Choral Society (Akateeminen laulu).
The doors will open at 18:30, and the concert begins at 19:00. The choir's artistic director, Dominik Vogt, will guide the audience to relax and enjoy the most beautiful Christmas carols. The program will feature pieces by Sibelius, Madetoja, and Mendelssohn, along with newer choral music by Swiss composer Ivo Antonini. The songs will be sung in Finnish, Latin, and other languages. The concert is free of charge to attend, with a program handout available for 10/20€. The hall's capacity is 100 listeners.
Academic Choral Society is a 70-year-old, traditional mixed choir of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki. For the choir, "academic" primarily means an inspiring spirit of collaboration and a commitment to creating high-quality, thought-provoking musical experiences. As a choir affiliated with the university, AL aims to be a pioneer in exploring new directions and performing choral music in innovative ways and interesting contexts. The choir has toured various parts of Finland and Europe, recorded albums, and participated in opera productions, university promotions, and other academic events.
