Digital degree certificates introduced in March 2025

The University of Helsinki will introduce digital degree certificates in March 2025. Degree certificates are issued digitally to prospective graduates who submit a graduation request on or after 18 March 2025.

You will receive a printed certificate if you submit a graduation request by 17 March 2025. Please note that all required studies included in the degree must be recorded by this date. If studies are recorded for you after 17 March 2025, you will receive a digital certificate.   

If you have submitted your master’s thesis for assessment on 21 January 2025 or earlier and if you submit your graduation request by 17 March 2025, you will receive a printed degree certificate. If you have submitted your master’s thesis for assessment on 22 January 2025 or later, you will receive a digital certificate. 

Following the switch to digital certificates, printed degree certificates will no longer be issued. However, officially certified printed copies of certificates will continue to be provided, when necessary. As before, such copies are subject to a fee. 

Digital degree certificates are legally binding and valid throughout the European Union. Each unedited certificate version stored anywhere is an official degree certificate.
