Digital Security at the University Now is a review of topical matters related to information security and digital security at the University. The review is published four times a year in Flamma and the Studies Service. We will include a selection of topical matters from the National Cyber Security Centre’s publications as well as the University’s digital security news.

The University's information security in figures from 1 May to 30 August 2025: Incoming phishing messages: 2000423, 49600 automatic alerts received by the information security team (Microsoft Sentinel), University staff and students’ Outlook reports about phishing messages and junk mail: 6971, 138 tickets received by the information security team. Number of IT Security Tests completed: 6278

In this section, we gather topical content from the latest publications and reviews of the National Cyber Security Centre.

2. Join the Digital Security at the University 2025 webinar on Thursday, 2 October at 9 a.m. and ask about digital security!

To celebrate the start of the European Cyber Security Month (2 October 2025), the IT Centre will organise a webinar, Digital Security at the University, on various current topics related to digital security. Sign up and ask about digital security — the most insightful questions will be rewarded!

3. The content of Flamma’s Information Security page will be renewed

  • For example, the Information security in remote work instructions were last updated — read the updated instructions!
  • Flamma’s Information Security pages will be renewed further in the autumn of 2025.

4. The University of Helsinki IT Security Test 2025—2026 has been published — you will receive reminders by email and Flamma notifications when it is your turn to take the test

Multifactor authentication at the University is a new topical theme in the information security test. In addition to the topical questions, the test includes, as before, questions about online scams and other basic information security issues.

Instructions and a link to the recently published test can now be found on the IT Helpdesk instructions site

The University of Helsinki IT Security Test draws attention to current information security phenomena and safe and secure practices. The short annual test is mandatory for staff members and degree students.
