Exchange Destinations 

The University of Helsinki has over 400 exchange destinations in more than 50 countries.

Depending on your study program, you can apply for an exchange for a semester or a year, but also for a shorter period, such as a single course.

You can also go abroad for an internship. Within Europe even after graduation – as long as you apply for the scholarship before graduating.

There's a suitable destination and a way to internationalize to be found, regardless of your life situation.

Application Deadlines 

Internship and Short Course Scholarships 

Applications are ongoing during semesters.

Exchanges during the academic Year 2026/2027 

  • EU and EEA countries: February 2 – 12, 2026, supplementary application round at the beginning of September 2026.
  • Non-EU and non-EEA countries: Supplementary application round for exchanges in spring 2027 February 2 – 12, 2026. Main application round for exchanges during the academic year 2027/2028 in October 2026.

Applications are typically submitted between a year and a year and a half before the exchange, but you can apply to European destinations up to six months before the exchange begins. Internship and short course scholarships should be applied for at least two months before the start of the internship or course.

How to Apply

  • Explore the available exchange destinations well in advance
  • Research 2-4 destinations in detail and find suitable courses for yourself
  • Prepare your application carefully and ensure you meet all the required criteria
  • Submit your application by the deadline
  • You can apply for an internship or short course scholarship once you have found a suitable course or internship position.
