Have your say on the promotion of community and belonging
The University’s equality and diversity plan is now in its draft version. You can give feedback on the planned measures by 30 September.
The University of Helsinki Equality and Diversity Committee is asking the University community to give feedback on the measures included in the 2025–2028 equality and diversity plan for nurturing a sense of belonging.
“The University’s goal is to be at the forefront of engendering an atmosphere of respect for diversity, as well as a healthy study and work community. This is why we would like as many community members as possible to contribute to further developing the draft plan,” says University’s equality advisor Martina Westman.
The deadline for comments is 30 September 2024. All responses will be processed anonymously.
Measures

- Improving conditions for the inclusion of people with disabilities
- Developing diversity skills
- Developing the knowledge-based management of diversity and equality
- Consolidating the utilisation of anti-racism research
- Increasing awareness of individual arrangements
- Taking into account the special needs and wellbeing of staff and students belonging to gender or sexual minorities
Creating open interaction and transparent practices
We aim in particular to promote an open culture of interaction and transparent practices, since these contribute to improving the experience of psychological safety in our University community.
- Organising inclusive equality and diversity training and events for the University community as a whole
- Developing annual reporting on the measures included in the equality and diversity plan
- Promoting salary transparency and equality
- Developing diversity indicators
Developing the integration of the University’s international community and inclusive language practices
We aim especially to promote the experience of international University community members of being a key part of that community and its future. Key to these efforts is communication and the development of existing language models.
- Introducing guidelines for language awareness at the University
- Incorporating international members of staff and students into the University community and Finland
- Actively considering diversity in communications, expressions and illustrations
