Are you interested in global sustainability and environmental issues? Would you like to participate in a student exchange? If these questions resonate with you, then the Una Europa for Virtual Exchange (UnaVEx) virtual exchange is your opportunity!

The UnaVEx virtual exchange taking place in November and December 2025 is arranged already for the 2nd time. This virtual exchange will provide an extensive overview of sustainable development, introducing you to topics as:

  • Introduction to sustainable development
  • UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Climate change
  • Biodiversity
  • Intersection of political economy and art in sustainability

The virtual exchange is organized via Zoom on five days, three hours per day. During the UnaVEx course, you will not only attend inspiring online lectures, but also get to know other students from the partner universities. You will work together in small groups, and your group will get to implement actions to increase sustainability, each member in their local context. Implementing these actions in different environments and cultures and their global impact will be discussed in your small groups – an opportunity for co- and peer-learning!

The course is open and free of charge to all students. No prior studies in sustainable development or the natural sciences are required. The language of instruction is English, and the course scope is one credit. As part of the course, participants should preferably complete the three-credit MOOC Introduction to Sustainability through independent study.

UnaVEx virtual exchange is a good way to explore for example climate issues from multiple viewpoints. Participants can subsequently expand their skills, for example, with the Climate University’s other online courses.

The UnaVEx studies are organised by the University of Helsinki, the University of Bologna (Italy), KU Leuven (Belgium), the University of Johannesburg (South Africa), the University of Nairobi (Kenia) and the University of Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo). The exchange initiative is part of the EU-funded UnaVEx project.
