Renovation of Viikki Infocenter progresses – schedule to be clarified later this year, teaching during third period moved to other facilities
The noisiest phase of the repair work following the water damage at Viikki Infocenter in July has now been completed, and the rebuilding of the facilities is about to begin.
During the autumn, water-damaged floors and walls have been removed from the basement and first floor of Infocenter Corona in Viikki. In particular, the limestone flooring in front of the main entrances has posed challenges, as this area suffered the most extensive water damage and its demolition has been the noisiest part of the renovation project.
The worksite is now entering a quieter phase. The partially demolished concrete walls and floors must be allowed to dry thoroughly before reconstruction of the surfaces can begin.
The repairs are still expected to be completed in early 2027. However, the schedule will become more precise later this year as more information becomes available on the delivery times of building materials and on the progress of the building’s drying process.
Teaching during the third period (18 January–7 March 2027) will be arranged in alternative facilities. Information about the new teaching locations will be added to course details before each course begins.
HelsinkiUniHelp service point is located in a commercial unit of Infocenter Corona facing Viikinkaari and is open on weekdays from 9:00 to 15:00.
At the University Library, the second-floor reading areas and the temporary service point located on the second floor remain available. Access to the second floor is only possible by lift, with clear signage from the entrance. The library is open on weekdays (Mon–Fri) from 8:00 to 18:00, and the customer service desk is open from 10:00 to 17:00.
The Unicafe restaurants located in the Infocenter are closed for the duration of the renovation.
