Stay home, study abroad – apply for two Una Europa’s European Studies courses!

Una Europa, an alliance of 11 prospective European universities, is offering the very first joint degree programme in Europe, the Joint Bachelor of European Studies (BAES). As part of the programme, the students at the University of Helsinki can select online courses from the programme and transfer the studies into their degrees at the University of Helsinki.  

The courses that are available for students from the University of Helsinki are: 

• European Cultures and Societies, 10 ECTS (autumn semester 2025, 29 September – 16 December)
• European Integration, 10 ECTS (autumn semester 2025, 29 September – 16 December) 

The courses consist of: 

• Online lectures given by teachers from the member universities of the Una Europa alliance.
• Tutorials and group work, in multidisciplinary teams.
• An e-learning module. 

Students must have a good level of English (B2 recommended) and be interested in European Studies. 

At the end of the courses, you can obtain a Certificate in European Studies of 20 ECTS, issued by the University of Helsinki on behalf of the Una Europa Alliance. You can also study the courses without applying for the Certificate. 

How to apply for the courses? 

1. Check from your study programme whether the courses are suitable for your degree and if you can fit 20 ECTS into your degree. If you have space within your elective studies, that is most likely the best section to fit the courses in your degree.
2. Fill in the application form by 15 June.
3. You will be informed if you have been accepted to complete the courses by mid-June 2025. If you are selected, you will then get more instructions on how to register for the courses. 

If you are accepted to study on the courses, you will get a transcript of records after completing the studies from KU Leuven that is coordinating the courses. You can then use the transcript to transfer the studies into your degree. If you will include the studies in your elective studies, apply for the inclusion of the courses.
