Submitting your thesis this year?
You only submit your thesis once, but the importance of that action cannot be overstated. After spending an enormous amount of time on your thesis, you probably would like its submission to be as quick, easy and sensible as possible. This is the goal of the redesigned E-thesis system. Redesigned submission and assessment system E-thesis to be deployed in stages.
E-thesis, the system for submitting and assessing theses, has been redesigned and will be deployed in some faculties as of 1 August 2024 and in others as of 1 January 2025. For faculty- and degree programme–specific deployment schedules, see the project’s Flamma page. To begin with, only master’s theses can be submitted in the service, but later on bachelor’s theses will also be submitted through E-thesis.
An easy and sensible user experience has been a key goal in the development of E-thesis. A clear, simple and accessible submission process reduces the amount of emails, files and stress. Students were involved in the development from the start, including a workshop mapping the service path. The service has been available for testing, for example, at a pop-up test session held at Kaisa House to ensure a sensible user experience when submitting theses.
But how does E-thesis work? Simply put, the submission process is divided into four elements: first, you check your personal details, after which you fill in the thesis details and submit all files related to the thesis. And that’s it! After that, students can take it easy, waiting for notification of the completed assessment.
E-thesis has been designed as an all-in-one service, which students themselves can use to submit their abstracts alongside their theses, check their maturity test details and select a suitable publication agreement for their theses, all on the same website. In addition to the thesis file, you can add other attachments and files as well as a web address, if part of the thesis is available online.
E-thesis is intended for not only thesis submission, but also thesis assessment. When theses are submitted to the system, a message is soon after sent to the examiners who assess theses within the same system. After the assessment is completed, students will be notified by email. Information on completed theses will be automatically transferred to the Helda repository, providing them with persistent web addresses. If you grant permission to publish your thesis, it will become available on the website as a PDF file, making it possible to share the Helda link, for example, in job seeking.
As the aim is to make the E-thesis user experience as easy and sensible as possible, students will be provided with instructions.
