29 October: Community plogging

Time between lectures? Get yourself a bin bag and a pair of protective gloves with the Uni logo and go plogging, or jogging and collecting litter. Despite the name, you need not jog or run, but can equally as well combine litter picking with a brisk or gentle walk.

If you're studying remotely on Tuesday, you can collect the equipment in advance and go plogging in your local area; if on campus, ask a friend to join you and go plogging nearby. In the latter case, bring the litter to a bin close to the entrances next to the porter lodges (see accompanying locations). If you want, you can also post photos in the Virtanen community feed you can find on the front page of Flamma!

Protective gloves and bin bags adorned with the University of Helsinki logo are available between 23.10.–29.10. from the porter lodges during building opening hours as follows:

  • City Centre: Porthania (Yliopistonkatu 3), Metsätalo (Unioninkatu 40), Minerva (Siltavuorenpenger 5)
  • Kumpula: Physicum (Gustaf Hällströminkatu 2)
  • Meilahti: Haartman Institute (Haartmaninkatu 3)
  • Viikki: Info Centre (Viikinkaari 11) and Building A (Latokartanonkaari 9)

1 November: Occupational Safety II webinar 9.30-11.30

Join this parallel-language webinar to hear more about social media harassment and the University’s support for researchers and to explore relaxation, recovery and self-compassion as well as UniSport tools supporting student and staff wellbeing.
