Take part in an experience sampling study & receive a gift card

Bulletin 3.6.2024

A new study exploring the daily lives of Helsinki residents through the lens of intergroup interactions is launching at the University of Helsinki, as part of the research project ”Microecological segregation in Helsinki”.

The study in question uses the experience sampling method, asking participants to respond to several short questionnaires a day throughout the extent of the study. By downloading an app on their mobile device, participants will receive 5 short questionnaires a day for 10 days. The questionnaires are sent between the hours of 8-21, but never closer than two hours apart. In each questionnaire, the participant is prompted to describe their current emotional state as well as their most recent social interaction. Answering one questionnaire takes about 1-4 minutes.

The research is carried out on the participant’s own mobile device and being in possession of a smart phone with internet connection is thus a prerequisite for taking part in the study. Participants should also be residents of Helsinki and/or spend most of their time in the Helsinki area. There are no other prerequisites for taking part. You can participate in the study in English or Finnish.

Participants receive an S-group gift card worth 15 euros as a thank you for taking part in the study. In addition, participants receive individualized feedback on changes in their self-reported mood and stress-levels in the app.

The Principal Investigator in the project is assistant professor Katarina Pettersson (Faculty of Social Sciences) and responsible for this study is university researcher Sointu Leikas (Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities).

You are very welcome to participate in the study! If you would like to participate or receive more information about the study, please be in touch:
