MOOC courses | Open University

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

MOOCs are online courses which are available for all, with no restrictions on the number of participants. The acronym stands for Massive Open Online Course.

Enrolment

  • Registration practices for MOOCs vary by course. In most cases you begin your studies in the online learning environment of the course. The necessary information is available on the course page of each MOOC.
  • You can participate in a MOOC free of charge. If you want to receive credits for the MOOC that you have completed, you will be asked to pay a fee at the end of the course. Some of the University of Helsinki’s MOOCs are completely free of charge. Information about the course fee is available on the relevant course page.

Studying a MOOC

  • Studying in a MOOC is usually very independent.
  • MOOCs are typically available for a specific period (e.g., one academic term or year), during which students can participate in the course flexibly according to their own schedule.
  • You don't need a University of Helsinki user account to study a MOOC course. User accounts are not opened for MOOC students.
