Remote public examination is attended through a two-way secure connection. Remote public examinations taking place in University facilities use Zoom, but the use of Teams, for example, is also permitted. A two-way connection allows the audience to follow the public examination remotely and to make comments at the appropriate moment. The audience can access the Zoom service without logging in, using a phone (requires downloading the Zoom app) or from a browser window on their computer. It is not permitted to organise a remote public examination on your own without AV support from the University.
An AV support person from the University attends remote public examinations of doctoral theses to ensure the smooth technical running of the event. AV support will be present at the venue no less than one hour before the beginning of the public examination to test the connections, and go through the public examination procedure and the technical equipment at the venue.
It is recommended that those attending through a remote connection have at their disposal a fixed internet connection, a camera on the computer and preferably headphones equipped with a microphone to ensure sufficient sound quality. The doctoral candidate must also advise the custos, the opponent and the grading committee members of the technical requirements and provide them with the Zoom link they have received from AV support. The audience participates in a remote public examination through a different link than the key persons of the examination process.
The doctoral candidate must fill in the dissertation information form at least 3 weeks before the dissertation. Remember to add a public Zoom link to your dissertation on the dissertation information form, as the dissertation information form will be used to extract the dissertation information from the university's events calendar. If the dissertation information is not found in the events calendar, the dissertation cannot be considered public.
