Optional study modules are either unrestricted, open to all, or restricted. Restricted study modules can only be taken after you have been granted a study right through a separate optional studies exam or another admissions process.
Some study modules have prerequisite studies, which you need to complete before beginning the studies. As a rule, basic studies should be completed before intermediate studies and basic and intermediate studies should be completed before advanced studies. Individual courses can often be taken even if the previous study module has not yet been completed. Some study modules are multidisciplinary study modules and have not been defined as basic, intermediate or advanced studies. These modules may still have previous modules, which you are recommended to complete first.

This page lists the optional study modules for the current, 2026-2030, curriculum period. Some of the modules from the previous curriculum period (2023-2026) will be removed from the new curriculum. Most of those study modules will have a two-year transition period during which they can still be completed. Some modules may have a longer or shorter transition period.
