Finnish organic research strengthened – application is open for two doctoral researcher positions

The open positions aim to further enhance organic research in Finland and promote sustainable food production. The doctoral projects, conducted in collaboration between the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the University of Helsinki, align with the research strategy of the Organic Institute and Finland’s national organic program.

Open positions

”Developing Intercropping for Increased Resilience and Functional Biodiversity in Organic Crop Production,” focuses on the effects of intercropping on improving yield reliability and ecosystem services in organic farming, as well as sustainable practices in organic cultivation. The work is engaged in fields of agroecology and integrated pest management in Luke and in plant production science at the department of agricultural sciences of University of Helsinki, as well as Luke Doctoral Programme and AGFOREE Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources at University of Helsinki.

The researcher will work under the supervision of the researchers of Natural Resources Institute (Luke) and University of Helsinki. The researcher will work as a researcher in Luke’s Plant Health group. The work is engaged in fields of agroecology and integrated pest management in Luke and in plant production science at the department of agricultural sciences of University of Helsinki.

”Life Cycle Environmental Impacts and Ecosystem Services of Finnish Organic Products (OLCA),” develops improved methods for assessing the environmental impacts of organic products and examines the life cycle environmental effects of Finnish organic products. The work focuses on method development and case studies of life cycle assessment of Finnish organic products, including an ecosystem service perspective. In addition, the researcher participates in project communication as part of the science communication of FORI and the research group and in the planning of new projects in the research group. 

The work is connected to the life cycle assessment research of agricultural and food products at the Natural Resources Institute Finland and the University of Helsinki, as well as Luke's doctoral program and Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources (AGFOREE) at University of Helsinki. The researcher will work under the supervision of the researchers of the Natural Resources Institute (Luke) and University of Helsinki.
