This monthly bulletin brings together the current events and services offered by Career Services. Our services are available to you right from the beginning of your studies and up to about one year after graduation.

Cold Contacting Employers - Effective strategies for Job Hunting (en)

Are you an international student / talent struggling with how to contact employers? Do you know how to approach employers? Cold contacting employers can be an effective way in your job-hunting strategy. Unlike traditional methods of applying for open advertised positions, cold contacting involves reaching out to companies or hiring managers even when there is no posted job opening. Approximately 70-80 % of jobs are not publicly advertised, and cold contacting can give you the advantage to showcase your initiative and motivation for a particular industry. Finnish Language Café – Event by UH SIMHE

Are you eager to learn Finnish in a laid-back and inviting setting? UH SIMHE (Supporting Immigrants in Higher Education in Finland) is inviting you to join our Finnish Language Cafe! 

In our warm and welcoming space, no registration is needed – just bring your enthusiasm to learn Finnish! Whether you're a beginner or looking to fine-tune your language skills, our Language Cafe is the perfect spot to practice and refine your Finnish in a stress-free atmosphere. Legal careers in Finland (for internationals)(en)

Do you have a degree in law from abroad or are you currently studying law and aiming to find a career in law in Finland? UH SIMHE is arranging an event to explore career opportunities for internationals in the legal field beyond traditional roles. 

Join our event on legal career opportunities in Finland's legal field for internationals. Hear stories and insights from our panelists who have successfully established their careers and believe in creating opportunities for others. Please register by 11.9. via this Lyyti form.

Identify your strengths workshop (fi, en) 

17.9.2024 at 16.00–17.30, Kaisa House Guidance Corner, Fabianinkatu 30, 3rd floor 

When was the last time you stopped to think about what makes you unique? Do you want clarity on what strengths you have? Come to a mini strengths workshop to do easy and fun exercises to help you develop your self-awareness. You don't need to sign up or prepare in any way – just show up! 

The workshop will be conducted bilingually in Finnish and English, and it is facilitated by the university's career counsellors. Registration is optional, but if you choose to sign up on JobTeaser, you'll receive reminders as the event approaches.

Are you an international professional or student looking for job opportunities in Finland? Join our Effective Job Hunting in Finland workshop to gain valuable insights into navigating the local job market, verbalizing your skills, and improving your opportunities to find work. Know Your Rights at Work & Finding a Part-Time Job (en)

Where can I find part-time work that doesn´t require Finnish skills? What are the sectors that hire students? What does my work contract say and what if the employer does not pay me correctly? 

Come hear the specialist on working rights and recruiting in Finland to learn more about your rights as an employee, services that can help you and concrete information on landing a part-time job! Are you wondering what your next step in studies or working life could be? Would you like someone to listen to your thoughts or provide tips on where to find additional information to support your considerations? Come and meet a career counsellor on campus without an appointment

You are welcome to any campus, regardless of where you usually study. The meeting is limited to a maximum of 20 minutes. Please be prepared to wait for your turn.

Are you seeking guidance on how to apply for a job or traineeship position? Or would you like to get feedback on your CV, job application, or LinkedIn profile? Welcome to our Drop-in support for job search on Zoom! 

No registration needed, individual time slots 20 minutes each. The Zoom link and instructions for attending are available on the Career Services' Guidance and Counselling page

Career counselling by appointment

Career counselling supports the development of self-awareness, exploration of career aspirations and opportunities, decision-making, and future planning. You can book a career counselling appointment whenever you have concerns – also at the very beginning of your studies.

New career counselling appointments are released on our booking page Vihta every last Wednesday of the month around 10:30–11:00 am (see exceptions on the booking page). Please note that career counselling is one of our most popular services, and appointments fill up quickly. Read more on our Career Services’ guidance and counselling page.

Traineeship guidance by appointment (fi, en, sv) 

At the Traineeship guidance you can ask any questions you may have about your traineeship and talk about your situation together with a Career services' traineeship specialist. You can book an appointment if you are thinking about the following:  

  • you plan on doing a traineeship, but you are not sure where to start the process  
  • you need tips on how and where to look for traineeship positions  
  • you wonder how the traineeship subsidy works and how you can apply for it.

The duration of a guidance session is 30 minutes. Book your session on booking page Vihta. New appointment times are opened on Vihta at around 10.30 - 11.00 on the last Wednesday of the month.

Rekrytori for Internationals - Recruitment Fair for International Talents

Come meet various employers and learn more about the Finnish job market! Rekrytori for Internationals is a recruitment fair that brings recruitment companies and international job seekers together.
