On 4 September 2024, UNU-WIDER presents the 28th WIDER Annual Lecture, featuring esteemed economist Professor Gabriel Zucman. The event takes place at Juhlasali in the Aalto University Töölö building in Helsinki, Finland.

This year’s lecture will explore the feasibility of a global wealth tax, emphasizing its potential benefits to the Global South. Interested students from the University of Helsinki are warmly welcome to join the event!

Join us as Gabriel Zucman discusses the urgent need to rectify global inequality through a new form of international economic cooperation. Zucman will explore the possibility of implementing a coordinated minimum tax, proposing a rate of 2% of wealth for the world's super-rich. This measure could significantly aid in funding social and environmental initiatives, particularly benefiting the Global South.

The 28th WIDER Annual Lecture will continue in its tradition of presenting groundbreaking research in 2024 by showcasing Zucman’s work.
