What is Flamma and how is it related to the Studies Service?

As we hope you already know, Studies Service (studies.helsinki.fi) is a student’s number one channel at the University. Studies Service brings together the key content, services, and tools you need during your studies.

On the front page of the service, you can follow topical news items and events, as well as check lunch menus and system notifications. The current bulletins published in the service are also distributed to you once a week through the student mailing lists.

However, Studies Service is not the University’s only communications channel. Often, for example when browsing instructions or reading bulletins, you might come across the name ‘Flamma’ – but perhaps it’s not always obvious what Flamma is, how it is related to the Studies Service, and why should a student take interest in it.

Flamma (flamma.helsinki.fi) is both a staff intranet and a channel for the whole University community to participate and contribute, and students are warmly welcome to step in. On Flamma you can, for example:

  • Comment on University news
  • Take part in discussions on current issues
  • Seek information on decision-making at the University

There’s a world of information on Flamma, and not all of it is necessarily of particular interest to a student. The easiest way to get started with Flamma is to start your visit from Flamma’s For students page. From now on, you will always find a direct link to the page on the front page of the Studies Service.

Suddenly feeling stressed? Don’t worry – following Flamma is not at all compulsory. Studies Service is a student’s main channel and all the most important news and instructions related to studies are always available there. We just wanted you to know what Flamma is – and that you are always welcome to stop by if you want to.
