The study use of Viikki Campus rooms K107 (building C) and 1801 (Biocentre 3) will end on 23 December 2024
The use of Viikki Campus rooms K107 (building C) and 1801 (Biocentre 3) as study spaces will end on 23 December 2024 at 1 AM. Weekend and night access for the aforementioned rooms will end concurrently.
The use of Viikki Campus rooms K107 and 1801 (including weekend and night access) as study spaces will end due to their low occupancy rate and the upcoming renewal to student access control. The rooms will no longer be accessible after 1 AM on 23 December 2024.
The University will decide on a new use for the premises at a later time. Weekend and night access will continue at the Kumpula Campus rooms DK107 and DK108 (Exactum building).
Please note! Night and weekend access continues at Biocentre 3 – you can enter the lobby and access available, unlocked rooms (such as the study space). All campuses have spaces suitable for studying. For information on study spaces, please see the university’s website.
- In early 2025, student access control will be renewed as the IT Center ceases its own weekend and night access service, which will be replaced by the new student access control service.
- In the new service, access control keys are retrieved from key service points and the service will be easier to scale to different needs, as the electronic readers are the same as the readers already used by the University’s staff. The University will release more information on the access control renewal for students during 2025.
- The IT Center has decided that, in future, it will primarily focus on the procurement and maintenance of equipment in premises paid for by other units and will no longer rent workspaces to students. Even now, most of the shared campus computers intended for general use are located in the campus libraries, and this prioritisation will be further enhanced.
- The Laptop Lender service piloted at the Viikki Campus will also be expanded to other campuses at the beginning of the year, with a total of six lender facilities. Laptop Lenders allow students and staff to borrow a laptop for use in the University’s facilities. We will provide further details on the expansion of the Laptop Lender service during 2025.
