Helsinki University Library offers information seeking training and support. 

Information seeking and management for thesis writers 

This online course is designed for students about to start working on their bachelor's or master's thesis. Participate in this online course whenever and wherever it fits into your schedule. The course area is in Moodle, and the course is open until the end of the academic year. Students at the University of Helsinki register for the course in Sisu with the code LIB-200.

Upcoming courses 

The Helsinki University Library regularly organizes courses on information seeking and reference management. Most of the courses are in Finnish but some courses are in English or Swedish as well.  

Courses in English:  

  • Zotero in English. Monday 31 March at 12.15pm-1.45pm (Zoom). Register
  • Information Seeking for Systematic Reviews (Scopus / Web of Science) Thursday 13 March 2025 at 9.15-11.00 am (Zoom webinar). Register

Guidance on information seeking 

Have you already taken courses at the library but still need more help with how to find sources? The students at the University of Helsinki have guidance on information seeking. See the instructions on how to book an appointment in a separate guide.  

Ask and Write workshop  

At the workshop you can ask about academic writing, information retrieval or reference management. The workshops are led by the Language Centre's written communication teacher and library experts in information retrieval and reference management. Please note, that the workshop is held in Finnish, but you can also ask in Swedish and English. 

  • Monday 7 April 2025 at 2.15pm-4pm. Kaisa House, Kaisa hall 7062, 7th floor. Register. 

The workshop will start with a short introduction in Finnish, after which you can work on your own essay or thesis and ask for help from instructors if necessary. The duration of the workshop is two hours, but you can stay in the workshop as long as you like. Please bring your own laptop and other necessary study equipment.  

Thesis Festival on March 19 at 13-19 at Kaisa House  

At the Thesis Festival, you will find out what kind of help the university has to offer to support you with your thesis. The day's program consists of presentations by various experts, workshops and one-to-one advice sessions.  All bachelor and master students and other interested students and staff are welcome to attend the event. You do not need to register for the event in advance.    

Helsinki University Library, the National Library of Finland, Language Centre and the student advice, career services and IT services of the University of Helsinki will be present at the event.

Students and staff at the University of Helsinki may participate in the courses free of charge. The courses can be taken free of charge by all students of the University of Helsinki, including students with the JOO flexible study right and Open University students.
