Week Against Racism 17–23 March 2025
(Partially translated using the Kontra machine translation tool.)
This year, the theme of the anti-racist week is specifically the responsibility of adults to tackle racism faced by children and adolescents.
Promoting antiracist study and work culture is a matter for the entire University community. Anti-racism work is one of the focus areas of our diversity efforts. Every member of the University community must have the opportunity to feel welcome!
The week against racism is celebrated annually in March. The week culminates in the UN Day against Racism on 21 March 2025.
The University is participating in the "Anti-racism capacity building: accelerating and mainstreaming" project of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. The project will support various organisations and professionals in strengthening and embedding an anti-racist approach to work in the operating methods and structures of organisations. In addition, the project will form a peer network of professionals with a BIPOC background (black, indigenous, people of colour) for discussing anti-racism themes from the perspective of minorities. By participating in the project, we will promote one of the three focus areas of the University’s new Equality and Diversity Plan for 2025–2028: “Promoting a diverse, accessible, non-discriminatory and anti-racist study and work culture”. One of the goals of this focus area is to strengthen the utilisation of research on anti-racism, in other words, we will consolidate research-based perspectives on racism and anti-racism within the University community in its entirety and in our equality and diversity efforts. In addition, we will develop processes related to the reporting, documenting and monitoring of racism as well as support for those affected by racism.
