Interesting seminars on different subjects relevant for the staff of Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme, and students of Bachelor’s Programme in Biology, Bachelor’s Programme in Molecular Sciences, Master’s Programme in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences, and Master’s Programme in Neuroscience.

Below are the seminar series, organizing unit and the coordinator(s) for the seminar in 2025 (seminar coordination duty is usually rotated among researchers yearly/by semester).

HiLIFE Monday seminars

Biomedicum Helsinki and Viikki Monday seminars have joined forces to offer you science for lunch on Mondays! HiLIFE seminars invite outstanding, international scientists to present their work to the broad audience of the life science community.

  • When: Usually Mondays at 13.00 Helsinki time (time can vary, check the details of each seminar)
  • Where: Usually Biomedicum 2, Meilahti – place can be found in the details of each talk.

UHBrain seminar series

The UHBrain seminar invites researchers around the world. Seminars are organized by Neuroscience Center (HiLIFE) and open to everybody.

The seminars are often also accessible via Zoom.

Seminar is also added to the Helsinki Brain&Mind shared calendar, and invitation is sent to NC staff and to the neuroevents email list.

Metabolism Seminars

Metabolism research ranging from basic to clinical science. Topics of previous seminars have been covering for example nutrient sensing, mitochondrial disease, metabolic organelles, metabolism in signalling, lipid metabolism, diabetes and obesity research.

Presentations each time by 2 research groups, usually one from Viikki and one from Meilahti and sometimes invited outside guests from other Finnish universities. Presentations are given by the PI + 1-2 group members, or just the PI. 

Open for all, credits for students (1 credit for 10 attendances in Metabolism or Stem Cell Seminars)

Stem Cell Seminars

Stem Cell research, including tissue stem cells, embryonic stem cells, iPSCs, regeneration, developmental and cancer biology.

Presentations each time by 2 research groups, usually one from Viikki and one from Meilahti and sometimes invited outside guests from other Finnish or Nordic universities. Presentations are given by the PI + 1-2 group members, or just the PI. 

Open for all, credits for students (1 credit for 10 attendances in Metabolism or Stem Cell Seminars)

BIweekly 

BIweekly is an internal seminar organized by the Institute of Biotechnology. Its purpose is to showcase the research that is being done in BI. 

Anyone working or studying at the University of Helsinki are welcome to join us to meet colleagues and learn about the latest research done in the BI community!
