The Doctoral School and the Research Foundation will open a call for over a hundred university-funded doctoral researcher positions in the autumn

The University of Helsinki Doctoral School organises an annual call for applications for university-funded doctoral researchers from 26 August to 9 September 2025. In the same call, ten named positions will be awarded by the Research Foundation. The general guidelines for the call have been published and the doctoral programme-specific instructions will be published in June. 

The Doctoral School will open applications for university-funded doctoral researcher positions on 26 August. More than a hundred funded positions will be allocated in the call. In addition to the Doctoral School positions, the University of Helsinki Research Foundation will award ten positions in the autumn application round. The application process for the Foundation's positions is carried out in cooperation with the Doctoral School's application process. The applicant does not need to submit a separate application to the Research Foundation's application.  

The Doctoral School has published new application instructions and a description of the assessment criteria and process on the Instructions for students page. The new instructions are based on the proposals of a working group appointed by the Doctoral School last November. Applications are submitted through the university's electronic recruitment channel.  

The Doctoral School will publish the application forms and doctoral programme-specific instructions in early June. Applicants should carefully familiarise themselves with both the general and doctoral programme-specific instructions.  

The application decisions will be published at the beginning of December. The names of those selected for the positions will be published on the Doctoral School's website.
