Portugal

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

Portugal offers a relaxed, welcoming study environment, with lively student communities in Lisbon and Porto. The country is compact and well connected by trains and coaches, making it easy to explore from coast to countryside; overland travel to Spain is straightforward, with onward rail links to the rest of Europe. Everyday life features Atlantic beaches, historic neighborhoods, vibrant café culture, music (fado and beyond), and year-round festivals. Nature is close and varied—cliffs, dunes, river valleys, and hills suited to hiking, surfing, and weekend trips. Costs are generally moderate by Western European standards, with affordable public transport and student discounts for culture and sports. English is widely understood in urban and academic settings, though basic Portuguese helps with housing, administration, and daily errands.
