Bulletin 12.11.2025

Accessibility information on the University’s buildings as well as public teaching and event facilities were surveyed in 2024 and 2025. In the future, information on facility accessibility will be provided in advance, allowing facilities to be assessed for accessibility when selecting a venue. The information can also be shared with participants before events so that they can assess how facilities suit their needs. The survey has focused particularly on physical accessibility, and the information has been made as measurable and permanent as possible. Later on, details can also be supplemented for other areas of accessibility.

Accessibility information on buildings and facilities

Accessibility information on University buildings is available in the openly available City of Helsinki Service Map. Building-specific information can be accessed by searching for a location and clicking on its Accessibility tab.

Facility-specific accessibility information can be requested from the building lobby services, facility booking (tilavaraus@helsinki.fi) and from 27.11.2025 onwards on UniHelp. The information will later be published in the University’s facility description website, which is scheduled for updating. So far, accessibility information has been published on City Centre Campus facilities. The accessibility information for other campuses will be published in late 2025 and spring 2026.

Accessibility information for facilities is composed of the following:

  • Route from the entrance to the facility
  • Access to the facility
  • Getting around in the facility
  • Furniture
  • Induction loop
  • Lighting

Project background

In 2024 a pilot for the accessibility information of the Main Building was carried out. The building details were added to the City of Helsinki Service Map, and a separate accessibility map was drawn up for the building. In connection with the project, a survey form for accessibility information was designed to collect relevant details on University premises. The form is based on the ESKEH accessibility mapping forms of the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities. The form is used to ensure that the accessibility information for University premises is as uniform as possible, regardless of the building, facility and collector of information.
