Bulletin 14.4.2026

If you receive student financial aid from the Finnish Social Security Institute Kela, have exceeded your annual income limit and Kela has paid you too much student financial aid, you can pay back the excess voluntarily until 30 April 2026.

If you pay back student financial aid voluntarily, you will not have to pay the 7.5% increase that is added if Kela recovers student financial aid from you. If you are enrolled in higher education, all voluntarily repaid months will also be added back to your quota of unused financial aid months. It is up to you to decide which month’s financial aid payment you want to pay back.

If you started being paid the student housing supplement in autumn 2025, we recommend that you pay back student financial aid you got in the first half of 2025 on your own volition. This way you pay back a smaller amount because you do not have to pay back any student housing supplement.
