Universities in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area are set to expand students’ language learning opportunities through a new network. Cross-institutional study of language courses at the network universities will be available from autumn 2026.

Established in 2025, the Network for Language Centre Pedagogy, Teaching and Research (KiePe) will widen the provision of language teaching to students at universities in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The network’s members are the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, the University of the Arts Helsinki and Hanken School of Economics. Going forward, students at these universities will be able to attend optional language courses at the other member universities.

From autumn 2026, the national cross-institutional studies service will facilitate this. By autumn 2028, study pathways will have been harmonised to some extent, making cross-institutional study even more straightforward.

Students can register for language courses at the other network universities through the cross-institutional studies service, and browse the courses on offer on each university’s website. Further information on registration and course provision will be published in August 2026.
