Does speaking another language make you nervous? Are you afraid of giving a presentation in front of an audience? Welcome to listen to the University of Helsinki Language Centre’s teachers’ presentations about language and communication stress. The theme will be introduced by Katja Suvanto, University Instructor in English and English language shame researcher, and Carola Rewell-Heikkinen, University Instructor in Swedish, teacher tutor and special education teacher.

Date and place: Thu 29 October 2026, 16.15–17.45 on Zoom (the link will be sent to those who register).

At the event we will:

  • explain language and communication stress as a phenomenon,
  • present methods for managing anxiety,
  • discuss how language and communication anxiety is taken into account in Language Centre teaching,
  • talk about available support measures related to language and communication anxiety.

Register for the event using this form. When registering, you can submit questions related to encountering and dealing with language and communication stress. Questions will be treated completely anonymously.

Language of the event is Finnish, but questions may also be asked in Swedish and English. You may attend the event simply as a listener with your camera turned off if you prefer. Questions and comments are of course welcome. The teachers’ presentations will be recorded.
