The right to complete a doctoral degree does not automatically entitle a doctoral researcher to work facilities at the University. Unfortunately, the University is not able to offer office space to all doctoral researchers. Doctoral researchers who are employed by the University are offered work premises as part of the employer’s regular responsibilities. The opportunities of grant-funded researchers to be allowed a work facility depends on the utilisation rate of unit facilities. If resources permit, units can make work facilities available to all doctoral researchers by application.

Employed by the University

If you are completing your doctoral studies under an employment contract with the University, you are automatically entitled to a work facility. The facility in question is determined when concluding the employment contract.

Grant-funded doctoral studies

Office space can be offered to doctoral researchers who have concluded a grant researcher's contract with the University. However, a grant-funded researcher agreement does not automatically give you the right to a workspace in all faculties. In these faculties, a separate application procedure for workspace is arranged which grant-funded researchers can participate in if they wish to be allocated work facilities at the faculty. To learn more about grant-funded researcher agreements, please continue to page Grant-funded doctoral studies.

Self-financed doctoral studies

Resources permitting, units can also grant work facilities to self-financed doctoral researchers. The facilities are to be granted through an application procedure. Information on application procedures can be provided, for example, through unit-specific Flamma pages or the email lists of doctoral candidates. Keep informed about upcoming application opportunities through your unit’s communications channels.

However, because many doctoral researchers are unable to find a work facility through the University, you should also seek other options. Work premises for temporary use are available at the University’s learning centres and libraries. For more information, please see Learning facilities website.
