Updating your personal information and contact details

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

When your personal or contact information changes, if needed, remember to notify the university about the changes.  When your study right as a degree student is active and your Finnish social security code is added to Sisu, some data is automatically transferred from the Population Data System to Sisu. This includes your first names, surname, place of domicile, nationality and permanent address.

Changes to contact details

From June 24th, 2025 onward, contact information will be automatically updated in Sisu from the Population Information System in some cases.

If your address or phone number changes, check from Sisu whether the update has been done and if needed, update your contact details yourself in Sisu or notify the student advice.

Through Sisu, the information about the changed contact details will also be automatically updated in the University Library systems and in the Student Union's membership records.

Remember to also notify the Finnish Student Health Services FSHS of any changes to your contact details.

Name change

If you have an active study right, information about your name change will be automatically updated in Sisu from April 15, 2025 onward from the Population Information System.

If you have just returned to your studies after a break, your name will be updated in Sisu a few days after you have registered for the academic year.

Through Sisu, information about the change will automatically update also to Frank, the Finnish Student Healthcare Services (FSHS), the University library and HSL. Please remember to give the HSL application permission to update your name. There is a delay of a few days before the data is transferred from Sisu to other systems.

Please note that information about your name change will not be automatically updated in the University's access authorisation system. Always inform the University IT-Helpdesk of any changes to your name.

Change of ID

When your personal identity code changes or you receive your first Finnish personal ID code, you must always notify the HelsinkiUni Help, either in person or by e-mail. 

As proof of the change, you need to present your passport, driving license, official identity card, certificate of service or other reliable document . Please don’t send certificates or your personal details in an unencrypted email. We will always ask for the certificates separately and you will receive instructions on how to send an encrypted email.
