Tips for the Summer!
While many people spend the summer working or studying, what else can you do that might be rewarding in the long term? Check out the Career Services' tips for summer 2025 below.
-
Listen to all those podcasts in your field (or watch webinar recordings) that you missed during the academic year. You can easily get started with podcasts from researchers at our own university. https://www.helsinki.fi/fi/ajankohtaista/podcastit
-
Take a leap into the unknown: learn a new language, a new skill or explore a whole new field of science. Which MOOC interests you most? https://www.helsinki.fi/en/admissions-and-education/open-university/open-online-courses-or-moocs
-
Do something creative. Paint, write a poem or short story, finally finish that project that's been sitting at the bottom of the cupboard for ages, or fill your time with the reading you love. Or do you want to see Helsinki with new eyes? Which museum or free event would you like to visit? https://www.myhelsinki.fi/visit/things-to-do/attractions-in-helsinki/
-
Take a moment for yourself: who are you, what do you value, what do you get excited about? Take a look at the self-study material prepared by the career counsellors. Works both on the beach and on your sofa at home! https://studies.helsinki.fi/instructions/article/tools-planning-your-career-and-future
-
Take charge of your wellbeing and remember to take time to recover, too! Recovery is not just about sleeping in longer or binge-watching TV shows on the sofa - it is also about being active. Remember that life isn’t - and doesn’t have to be – constant sunshine and birdsong. Boredom and even frustration are normal visitors. Be kind to yourself and let your inner critic go spend their summer somewhere far away from you! https://www.purdueglobal.edu/blog/student-life/college-students-guide-mindfulness/

Career counselling supports the development of self-awareness, exploration of career aspirations and opportunities, decision-making, and future planning. You can book an appointment with a university’s career counsellor whenever you have concerns – also at the very beginning of your studies. Please note that this is one of our most popular services, and appointments fill up quickly.
New appointments for traineeship guidance and career counselling are opened on the booking page Vihta on the last Wednesday of each month around 10.30–11.00 am (see exceptions on the booking page).
