Graduation ceremonies

Once or twice each academic year, the faculties organise a graduation ceremony with speeches, music and toasts raised in honour of the new degree holders. You can also invite a few friends or family members who have supported you during your journey towards graduation to join you in the ceremony.

In the spring term, the ceremonies are held in June and in the autumn term in November–December. Your home faculty notifies you when registration for the event is open – keep an eye on your email.

The University remembers each graduate attending the ceremony with a letter of congratulations, which will be a tangible reminder of their time at the University and their graduation. The letter has been designed with visual appeal in mind to bring joy also in photographs.

Letters are awarded only at the graduation ceremonies. 

If you wish, you can have an official graduation portrait taken on site. We'll send you more information on this once you've registered for the ceremony.

If you share graduation photos on social media, please use the hashtags #WeAreHelsinkiUni and #HelsinkiAlumni. That way, we can find you and send our congratulations.

Congratulations on your graduation! The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences organizes a graduation ceremony once a year (in June) for students who have completed their degrees.

The graduation ceremony:

• Date and time: Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at 14:00–16:00
• Location: University Main Building, Great Hall (Aleksanterinkatu 5 / Unioninkatu 34)
• Who is invited: all the students, who have completed or will complete a bachelor´s, master´s, licentiate, or doctoral degree during academic year 2025-2026. Your family and friends are also welcome (max. 3 persons).   
• Registration no later than 29th May 2026:

• Dress code: Smart, festive attire (no formal dress required)

The ceremony includes speeches, musical performances, and sparkling wine. In addition, graduates will receive personal floral tributes to congratulate them on their graduation. You are welcome to invite friends and family to join the celebration (max. 3 persons).

Congratulations on your graduation! The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry organizes a graduation ceremony once a year (in June) for students who have completed their degrees.

The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry organizes the graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 4th, 2026 at 14-16 o'clock in the Great Hall of the University Main Building. The graduation ceremony is for all the students, who have completed or will complete a bachelor´s, master´s, licentiate, or doctoral degree during academic year 2025-26.

The program includes speeches by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, and a University alumni as well as a music performance.  The event closes with a glass of sparkling wine. If you wish, you can bring up to three guests. 

To participate in the graduation ceremony you have to register in advance. . Registration for the celebration 24th May 2026 at latest.

Graduates have the opportunity to have an official photograph taken at the event. Timeslots can also be booked in advance here. 

Please note! You can register for and participate in the the graduation ceremony if you have completed all your studies before the end of the term, even though you are still waiting for them to be registered in Sisu and therefore have not been able to hand in your Graduation request yet.

The graduation ceremony takes place twice a year for those graduating from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students of the faculty who complete all studies required for their degree and submit their graduation request by the end of the semester are eligible to participate in the celebration. If you are submitting your graduation request before receiving the grade for your thesis, please submit it through the degree programme code. Please note, that in this case you should have already submitted your thesis for evaluation.

The graduation ceremony for autumn term will take place on Tuesday 16 December 2025 at 16-17. The venue is the Main Building Great Hall (Unioninkatu 34). Register for the graduation ceremony by 2 December.

The graduation ceremony for spring term will take place on Friday 5 June 2026 at 16-17. The venue is the Main Building Great Hall (Unioninkatu 34). Register for the the graduation ceremony by 5 May.

The duration of the ceremony is about one hour. The program will include speeches, musical performances and some sparkling wine. In addition, graduates will receive personal floral tributes to congratulate them on their graduation. The graduating students are invited to fetch their rose and letter from the stage, and the order is based on the students’ degree programme. Seats are reserved for graduating students.
