Learning Facilities

In the Learning Centre Aleksandria students access to a wide range of electronic desks and docking screens, as well as several different spaces such as a family room, a sensory-friendly space and a relaxation room to recharge their batteries while studying. Distance learning during the day will be possible in the living room on the 1st floor and in the conversation friendly area on the 2nd floor. 

Each campus has its own campus library with a collection of literature relating to the degree programmes taught on each campus. The libraries have quiet spaces for work, and several group study rooms that can be reserved. You can also explore the National Library, Finland’s oldest and most extensive academic library and a part of the University of Helsinki.

Guidance Corners are a place for low-threshold events related to studies and wellbeing. The Guidance Corners are located in the City Centre campus Kaisa House and in Viikki Info Centre Korona. If there isn't any program going on, feel free to read, meet other students or just rest in the Guidance Corners!

In all Guidance Corner events, the participants commit to following the principles for a safer space. When attending a Guidance Corner event, meet all participants with an open mind, respect their diversity and let everyone define their own experiences. Guidance Corner at City Center campus is located on the third floor of Kaisa House (Fabianinkatu 30), next to main doors.

Guidance Corner at Viikki Campus is on the 1st floor of Infocentre (Viikinkaari 11) in the campus library premises in front of the Nile garden.

Viikki Guidance Corner Library

Think Corner is an open science arena for events, collaborative working and learning, networking as well as sharing and developing ideas. It is located in the heart of the city campus (Yliopistonkatu 4). The main venue space Stage is the hot spot of Think Corner, a meeting point and an arena for researchers, specialists, influencers and the public. Have a cup of coffee, breakfast or lunch at Tiedekulma Cafe, and visit Tiedekulma Shop for a good selection of both Finnish and English books as well as University of Helsinki products.

Coworking Basement, situated in the Think Corner basement, is a relaxed and inspiring coworking space suitable for both group work and independent work. In addition, Think Corner offers multi-use spaces also on the other floors, whether you prefer working in café surroundings or more laid-back on a sofa.

All the working spaces are available on a first come, first served basis, except the bookable group work corner in the Coworking Basement. Our energetic hosts help with the facilities and can be contacted, among other things, for equipment and chargers to borrow.

The IT Centre offers work spaces with computers for all members of the University community on the City Centre, Kumpula and Viikki Campuses. These include large general facilities, classrooms and terminals for quick use. Most of the facilities are equipped with printers. When needed, you can also use some of the teaching facilities at the campuses for independent study when they are not booked for teaching or other activities. Ask the building porter about available spaces.

You can also make use of building lobbies. All suitable lobbies can be used for studying at times when they're not reserved for other use.

Unicafe facilities at Topelia and Metsätalo (City Centre) and at the Haartman Institute (Meilahti) can also be used for independent study outside the restaurants' opening hours.

Please note that you might not be the only student using the facility. If needed, agree together on basic ground rules.

When studying in the teaching facilities:

• Please clean up after yourself and eat your snacks elsewhere.
• If you leave your spot for a short period, leave a note indicating your time of departure. Make sure to check that there are no upcoming bookings in the space that will start while you’re gone.
• If you leave for more than a half an hour, please take all your belongings with you.

The University is not responsible for any belongings left unattended in the facilities.
