Panel discussion: How to Find a Job as an International Student in Finland? (7.10.) Recording coming!

The Career Services at the University of Helsinki warmly welcomes you to join the panel discussion on how to find a job as an international student in Finland on the 7th of October from 16:00 to 17:30. If you are interested in knowing how former international students at the University of Helsinki have successfully built a career, and receive tips on how to excel in the Finnish labor market, then this event is for you. During this panel discussion, three international graduates from the University of Helsinki and a Talent Recruitment Specialist will speak with you about their career journey and provide us with helpful insight to find job opportunities in Finland.  

Date: Thursday the 7th of October from 16:00 to 17:30

We understand that looking for a job position as an international talent after graduation can be a nerve-racking experience. For this reason, we decided to bring Juan Fernandez, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Leaddesk, Yuri Kitaba, Project Coordinator at Moniheli, and Tabiagbor Tanyi, Environmental Expert at Finnish Overseas Consultants, onboard to guide you in your career path. These three professionals and former students of our university were in the same position as you not so long ago and are eager to share their valuable information to help you recognize the assets that international students have when applying for a job position in Finland. Besides, our fourth panelist, Annukka Tervo, Talent Leader of Mercury Urval, and also an alumna of the University of Helsinki, will also join the conversation by guiding us through the benefits that international graduates bring to Finnish companies while sharing some tips about how to be more competitive in the Finnish labor market.

Annukka Tervo is currently the Talent Leader at Mercuri Urval and has a bachelors's degree in psychology from the University of Birmingham, a masters's degree in Work Psychology and Business from the University of Aston. 

Yuri Kitaba is currently a DigiUp Project Coordinator at Moniheli and has a bachelor's degree from Kyoto Sangyo University and a masters's degree in Contemporary Societies from the University of Helsinki. 

Juan Fernandez is currently a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Leaddesk and has a bachelor's degree in Business and Administration from Universidad de Oviedo and a masters degree in Forest Economics and Marketing from the University of Helsinki. 

Tabiagbor Tanyi is Environmental Expert at Finnish Overseas Consultants and has a bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Dschang, a master's degree in Human Geography from the University of Eastern Finland, and a master's degree in Forest Management from the University of Helsinki.

International Career Opportunities (28.10.)

Interested in an international career? Curious to learn how this dream could become a reality? Would you like to hear career stories from interesting experts? If you answered yes to these questions, this event is for you! 

UN Youth of Helsinki is once again organizing the yearly ”International Career Opportunities” event on Thursday 28 October at 6–8 PM. The event will be held in cooperation with the Career Services of the University of Helsinki. In this event you will hear inspiring and international career stories and tips from experts of different fields, all of which touch upon the goals and themes of the UN. You will learn valuable and practical career advice and be introduced to varying international careers. Please note that the event will be held in Finnish.

This event will be organized in hybrid form. You may attend either physically at the assembly hall of the Language Center of University of Helsinki (Fabianinkatu 26) or remotely online. There is a limited amount of seats available at the event location – secure your spot by registering to the event. Please note that registering in advance is a requirement for participating physically. 

A recording of the event will be published afterwards, available as well to those who couldn’t follow along in real time. 

At the start of the event we will hear from Anne Saloranta and Kristiina Hope about the international recruitment of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the UN’s expert and voluntary programs. In the following panel session we will dive deep into the career paths of the event’s panelists.The event panelists are:

Get the best tips from our Career Counselors on job search, fixing your CV and LinkedIn! The workshops are open for all the students at the University of Helsinki regardless of the point of studies.

The workshops are organized in Finnish, Swedish and English – please note the language of the workshop when you are signing up! 

The events are organized on Mondays via Zoom. The registration closes on Thursday before each workshop and we will send the Zoom link and additional information by email on Friday. The workshop will be organized if there are at least 10 participants. We will inform you about possible cancellations.

Job Search Workshops

Whether you are searching for a part time job during your studies or a job after your graduation, now is your chance to get the best tips from our Career Counselors for a successful job search! In this workshop, you will receive help in e.g. following questions: 

How to begin job searching? How do I write a good application and CV and stand out from other candidates? What kind of possibilities does social media offer for job search? How do I find jobs from the hidden job market? 

In the workshop, you will get the opportunity to read and comment on the other participants’ CVs in an encouraging environment. This in a unique opportunity to see other students’ career documents and receive constructive feedback on your own CV. Students who have participated in similar workshops have found the feedback they received highly rewarding. Therefore, take a digital version of your CV at hand and remove all information you do not wish other participants to see.

LinkedIn Workshops

Update your LinkedIn-profile to a whole new level! In this workshop we will look at your LinkedIn-profile especially from the point of view of job search and networking.

What do the recruiters pay attention to in your LinkedIn-profile? How do you stand out from the other candidates? You will also receive help in writing your profile text.

If you do not have a LinkedIn-profile, please create one before attending to the workshop.

LinkedIn Feedback Sessions

Do you already have your LinkedIn profile set up, but you are wondering if it describes you and conveys the right message? Are you using the right keywords? Is your headline relevant? Are your goals, visions and competencies clearly articulated in your profile?

In this workshop you will be able to ask questions and discuss your profile with your peers. After a short intro by our career counsellor you will get opportunity to get peer feedback on your own profile in small groups. This workshop is targeted for you if you already know the basics of LinkedIn but would like to polish your profile.

Recognise your skills workshops

Wondering what skills have you developed exactly during your education, your working life experiences and eg. in your hobbies and other extra-curricular activities? In our Recognise Your Skills Workshop you will get the chance to map out your skills and strengths and also to verbalise them in a way that will be helpful to you when looking for jobs.   

The workshop will be led by one of the university’s career counsellors and you will be working both individually and in small groups with other participants.
