Exchange destinations around the world

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

You can choose from more than 450 destinations across the world. Read more about the University’s exchange programmes and partner universities to find the right destination. 

You can read about the experience of previous exchange students (mostly in Finnish) as well as follow students currently on an exchange to get inspiration and information on our exchange destinations.

If you cannot find a suitable option through the University of Helsinki’s exchange programmes, you can also make independent exchange arrangements.

Europe

The most popular European student exchange programme is Erasmus. The Nordplus programme also offers exchange opportunities in Nordic and Baltic countries. Outside the Erasmus region, you can study at leading universities in Georgia. Here you find more information on European destinations. 

We also have university-level bilateral agreements with prominent Ukrainian universities from which we receive students. However, due to the war, these destinations are not open for outgoing exchange students until further notice.

In line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Culture, all institutional collaboration with Russian and Belorussian universities and other institutions is suspended. Middle East and Africa

Exchange opportunities are available at top-level universities in the Middle East and Africa in countries such as Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Libanon, Palestine, Benin, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.

Asia

You can complete exchange studies at some of the top universities in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Laos, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Proficiency in the language of the target country is not always required because you can study in English at many of the Asian destinations.

North America

You can complete a wide range of exchange studies in Canada and the United States. The University of Helsinki currently has approximately 40 destinations in North America.
