Continue your earlier language studies – many communication and language courses start in the second teaching period at the Language Centre

A broad selection of communication and language courses will begin at the Language Centre in the second teaching period. A wide range of study methods will be available, along with degree-required and optional communication and language courses at different levels. 

Explore the full range of the Language Centre’s language and communication courses in the Studies Service and find the ones that best suit your needs. The Language Centre also offers language and communication programmes worth 15 or 25 credits. 

Registration for courses commencing in the second teaching period will run from 28 September to 18 October 2026. You can register for our courses and exams in Sisu. 

Courses beginning in the second teaching period include:

 

Arabic

  • Arabic 2 (KK-ARA101, CEFR A1, 3 cr, contact teaching)

Academic communication and writing skills (Finnish)

Speech communication (Finnish)

  • Demanding Communication Situations (KK-AI003, 2 cr, blended teaching). Does your work bring you into challenging and mentally stressful communication situations? How could you prepare for these and handle them afterwards? This course develops your communication competence and helps you make sense of your emotional reactions. It is suitable for anyone whose work involves, or will involve, demanding communication situations. The course includes three sessions requiring onsite attendance (5 November, 19 November and 3 December 2026, 16.00–20.00), with theoretical discussion of communication challenges, small-group conversations, and group assignments. Register now!
  • Leadership Communication (KK-AI005, 2 cr, remote teaching). Are you interested in leadership as part of your future work? What about the aspects of communication that come with it? Take the course in leadership communication! The course explores leadership communication in theory and practice, with a leadership development assignment and reflection on your leadership skills. No prior supervisory experience or leadership studies are needed to participate.

Academic and Professional Communication in English courses required for degrees, offered as blended teaching: 

Advanced courses in remote and contact teaching formats:

Academic communication courses:

  • Academic Writing 2: Process and Feedback (master’s students) (KK-ENG502, CEFR C1, 2 cr, online teaching, Viikki and Kumpula programmes). Are you writing your master’s thesis or other research-based text? In Academic Writing 2, you will create a personal writing plan and develop your writing and editing skills while making progress on your thesis. Throughout the course, you will receive support and feedback from your teacher and peers.
  • Advanced English: Feedback on Writing (KK-ENG504, CEFR C1, 1 cr, remote teaching). In Feedback on Writing, you will participate in a 45-minute, one-on-one meeting with a teacher to develop a text that you are actively writing, editing, or planning. All genres are welcome! If your study programme requires this course, be sure to participate before the end of May in your final year of your studies.

Spanish

  • Español 6 – Spanish 6 (KK-ESP312, CEFR B1.2, 4 cr, remote teaching). Continue your Spanish studies with the Avanzamos textbook! Have you worked through the Avanzamos textbook and completed chapters 1–7? Continue your studies in the course KK-ESO312 Español 6 – Spanish 6 (B1.2), where we will move on to chapters 8–14. You will build your discussion skills, expand your vocabulary and learn to express your opinions more fluently in Spanish through engagement with current themes. With remote teaching and a single teaching period, studying stays flexible.

Korean

  • Korean 2 (KK-KOR101, CEFR A1, 2 cr, remote teaching)

Swedish

  • Want to continue learning Swedish? Swedish for Beginners 2 (KK-RUO101, CEFR A1, 3 cr) is the perfect next step after the Swedish 1 course. It is a very popular course for students whose school language is not Finnish and who want to continue building their Swedish skills. This autumn, you can choose between two formats: online (fully remote study) and blended (a combination of online and contact teaching). Choose the format that suits you best and continue your Swedish journey! 
  • Diskutera mera om kultur – Continue to Discuss Culture (KK-RUO405, CEFR B2, 1 cr, contact teaching). This course is for you if you would like to develop and strengthen your spoken Swedish by talking, conversing and exchanging views with others. Throughout the course we will discuss a range of cultural themes and current issues, practising how to express opinions, ask questions, present arguments and keep a conversation going. The focus is on finding the courage to speak and communicate, not about getting everything perfectly right. 

Attention, biological and environmental sciences students! Did you miss the Swedish course in the first teaching period? Don’t worry! You have another chance to take it in the second teaching period. The course runs as contact teaching on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.15 to 12.45. 

Courses for other faculties will also resume in the second teaching period. Sign up and complete your Swedish studies this very autumn!
