For new students in specialisation studies in pharmacy

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

Activating user account

Professional Specialisation Education in Pharmacy is organised as a collaboration between the University of Helsinki and the University of Eastern Finland. Consequently, students in the specialisation education are registered as students of both universities. You will receive two user accounts, one for the University of Helsinki and one for the University of Eastern Finland. In the University of Helsinki’s systems, you will use the University of Helsinki user account, and in the University of Eastern Finland’s systems, you will use the University of Eastern Finland user account. You will need the user account, for example, to log in to email, Moodle, Sisu and Peppi.

If you have not yet registered as a student at the University of Eastern Finland, please do so now. Activation of the University of Eastern Finland user account is only possible once the right to study has been recorded in the study information system and the data have been transferred to the user management system.

University of Helsinki user account

The University of Helsinki user account is activated according to the instructions available on the university’s Helpdesk pages: Instructions for activating the UH user account.

If you are unable to activate your user account by following the instructions via the link above, please contact the University of Helsinki Helpdesk:

   by email: helpdesk@helsinki.fi
via the chat service on the university’s Helpdesk pages
   by phone: +358 2941 55555

For most services, you log in using the basic form of your user account. In some services, the user account is given in a slightly different form.

  • The basic form of the user account is a string of approx. 4–8 characters, usually formed from the letters of your name, and it remains the same throughout your studies.
  • When logging in to Microsoft services, the suffix @ad.helsinki.fi is added to the user account.
  • When logging in to the eduroam network, the suffix @helsinki.fi is added to the user account.

University of Eastern Finland user account

The University of Eastern Finland user account is activated according to the instructions available on the university’s website: Instructions for activating the UEF user account.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is a security measure that requires the use of two or more authentication measures for a service or system to be accessed. In practice, this means additional authentication, for example, with a separate application or by phone when you log in to the University’s services.

Multifactor authentication is already in use in several of the University’s online services. More information and instructions for authentication can be found on the IT Helpdesk website.

Multifactor Authentication improves information security by making scam attempts more difficult for cybercriminals. The University uses many methods of identification, and identification is also possible without a phone.

Use of email

At the University of Helsinki, matters related to studies and studying are communicated via the helsinki.fi email address. When you activate your University of Helsinki user account, you will automatically receive a Firstname.Surname@helsinki.fi email address (from the University of Eastern Finland you will receive a @student.uef.fi email address). At the University of Helsinki, the Microsoft 365 email and calendar system is in use. In practice, this means that messages sent to Firstname.Surname@helsinki.fi are delivered to the Microsoft 365 system.

You can use the Microsoft 365 package in a web browser. When logging in to Microsoft services, the suffix @ad.helsinki.fi is added to your user account.

Remember that your user account and your email address are not the same thing. It is therefore not possible to send email to you at kayttajatunnus@ad.helsinki.fi or kayttajatunnus@helsinki.fi.

At the very beginning of your studies, make a habit of reading these emails so that you do not miss important messages. If you wish, you can forward messages sent to your helsinki.fi address to another email address by following the instructions provided by the University of Helsinki IT Helpdesk.

Registration for the academic year

At the University of Helsinki, annual registration is required, i.e. for every semester of your right to study you must register either as attending or non-attending. When you accepted your study place, you completed the registration for the first academic year. Registration for the following academic year is done during the university’s registration period (1 April–31 August 2027) in the Oili system.

You can complete studies at the university only if you have registered as attending. Submitting the annual attendance notification is also important to ensure that your user account remains valid. Note that students in Professional Specialisation Education in Pharmacy do not need to pay the membership fee of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY).

At the University of Eastern Finland, you do not need to register separately for each academic year; your right to study remains valid for the entire duration of your studies.

Online learning environments

The courses in the specialisation education make use of online learning environments. For courses organised by the University of Helsinki, Moodle is used, and for courses organised by the University of Eastern Finland, eLearn Moodle is used. After you have registered for a course, you will be sent a link and a course key to access the online learning environment for that course.
