Bulletin 15.1.2025

Universities have decided to terminate the flexible study right (JOO) agreement as of January 1, 2026. The last opportunity to apply for JOO studies will be in the spring semester of 2025: applications for undergraduate students will be open from March 1 to March 31, 2025, and for doctoral researchers, the application period is continuous until July 31, 2025.

No new endorsements for JOO studies will be given after July 31, 2025. All study rights granted before this date will remain valid until the end of the granted study period.

The University of Helsinki is investing in cross-institutional studies as a form of national student mobility. Cross-institutional studies means that a student can take courses free of charge at another Finnish higher education institution in addition to their own. This requires an agreement on teaching cooperation between the institutions. Cross-institutional studies always applies to specific student groups and courses, which are usually included in the curriculum of the study program. Many of the university's study programs are already part of national cross-study networks, and the activity is expanding.

The university's own offering of optional studies is diverse and comprehensive. Additionally, there is a wide range of options in terms of destinations and durations for international exchanges.
