By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

On this page we've gathered information about open university student advice and other support services that you can contact when you have questions.

Choose the right service

In addition to our student advice, there are several other University services to support you in different situations – choosing the right service to contact will help you get quicker service:

  • If your question concerns activating your University user account, please contact the university IT-Helpdesk. Check the instructions for activating your account first, and remember to activate your user account in good time before your studies start.
  • If you have questions on the course content or the course’s Moodle area, please contact the teacher of the course. Contact information for the teacher, as well as a link to the course’s Moodle area, are available on your chosen course’s course page. You need an active University user account to log in to Moodle. The Moodle area will open at the latest when the course starts – please wait patiently and, if you wish, check out the Moodle user instructions in advance.
  • If you need individual arrangements to support your studies, please check the instructions and contact the University's accessibility contact persons if needed.
  • With any other questions on available courses, registration, and studying, the student advice is here for you.

Contact us by email

Our student advice advises you by email on all questions related to available courses, registration and studying.

If you send your message from a non-University of Helsinki email address, please mention in the message your full name and student number (or date of birth) and your phone number – this will help us to serve you and other students faster.

Student advice email address: avoin-student@helsinki.fi

If your questions relate to more detailed guidance in studies, compiling study modules or attendance certificates, email is always the best way to contact us.

Phone service & chat

We are building something new: the Open University's telephone service is closed from the beginning of November. At the end of November, we will launch a renewed advisory service where our advisors will be available every weekday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will provide more information about the new service in the Study service in the coming days!

Our chat service is open 24/7. Hubot, our customer service bot for admission and student services, is available in the chat to answer all your questions.

  • You can find the chat service on the right-hand side of this page. Please note that you must accept statistics cookies to see the chat.
  • In addition to this page, you will find a chat window on the pages Open university and Instructions for Students: All instructions.
  • We recommend that you ask the bot short questions, one question at a time.
  • If the bot is unable to answer your question, you can leave a contact request to customer service staff through it.

Visit us at the service point

We serve you in order of arrival. You do not need to book an appointment. Please notice that if our service is very busy, we might not be able to serve all.
