Työelämäjakso on integroitu pakolliseen opintojaksoon Tutkimusharjoittelu (KEK211, 9 op). Katso harjoittelu kemian kandiohjelmassa.

Kemian kandiohjelman tutkintoon sisältyy 5 opintopistettä asiantuntijuusopintoja, jotka suoritetaan Kemian asiantuntijuusopinnot –opintojaksossa (KEK403, 5 op). Opintojakso suositellaan käytäväksi toisena ja kolmantena opiskeluvuotena. Opintojakso on jaettu kolmeen osaan, joista kaksi on pakollisia:

• Kemian asiantuntijuusopinnot: Urasuunnittelu (KEK403A, 2 op)
• Kemian asiantuntijuusopinnot: Kemian tiedonhaku (KEK403B, 1 op)

Loput 2 opintopistettä voi suorittaa vaihtoehtoisilla tavoilla. Politiikan ja viestinnän kandiohjelmassa 5 op laajuinen työelämäjakso suoritetaan valitsemalla yksi seuraavista VALT- tai PVK-alkuisista opintojaksoista:

Politiikan ja viestinnän kandiohjelmaan kuuluu pakollisena opintojakso VALT-610K Asiantuntijataidot, 5 op. Opintojakson suorittanut opiskelija osaa:

• tunnistaa osaamistaan sekä kehittyä sen ilmaisemisessa
• eritellä, millaisista osa-alueista asiantuntijuus koostuu sekä suunnitella opintoja ja muuta toimintaansa 
• eritellä kehittyvää asiantuntijuuttaan suhteessa omiin tavoitteisiinsa sekä yhteiskunnan ja työelämän muuttuviin tilanteisiin.

Opintojakson suoritustavat:

• Digitaalinen portfolio syksyllä 2020 ja sen jälkeen aloittaneille
• Asiantuntijataidot-lähiopetus ennen syksyä 2020 aloittaneita opiskelijoita varten
• 2. ja 4. periodeissa järjestettävä verkkokurssi (viisi vuotta tai enemmän työelämässä olleille)

Koulutusohjelma voi järjestää myös oman Asiantuntijataidot -kurssin, joka vastaa VALT-610K-kurssia.

Ympäristö ja elintarviketalouden koulutusohjelmassa työelämäjakso on YET-019 Työelämäjakso ympäristö ja elintarviketaloudessa (harjoittelu tai työelämäprojekti).

The obligatory core courses Academic skills for Data Science and Introduction to Data Science include career counseling. Data Science Fest discusses multiple topics including career counseling. The obligatory Data science project is typically carried out utilizing data and material from companies in academic supervision. This project is an organized connection to working life. Data Science students can also choose to do another optional project.

Students may write their Master’s Thesis in co-operation with a company or research group. Data Science Master's Programme has contacts to companies in co-operation with the student organization TKO-äly, for example excursions, work and recruitment event Kumpula potential, thesis night and job exchange.

The programme helps its students find trainee positions during the summer break and recognizes experience gained from practical work in data science.

DATA10005 Advanced Work Experience, 5 credits

The credits are awarded for data science work experience, and only to students in the programme. 1 full-time month or its equivalent corresponds 5 credits, and 5 credits is the maximum. It is recommended that the credits are applied for after the first year of studies in the programme. If the work has not been done during the Master's degree studies, the application needs to include arguments how the work experience has enhanced the completion of advanced studies and/or given perspective of the necessity of master's studies in the data science field.

The work experience can be e.g., in a company, in administration, in the third sector, or in the academia. In any case, the work must be closely related to data science. The extent and nature of the work must be proven, e.g. with a reference letter from the employer. The student must also provide a report of 1-2 pages detailing the personal learning experience in the work, and the relationship of this experience to the studies. The credits are given only once, so the student should have all the experience-based credits registered at the same time.

Practical training in the Master's programme in Food Sciences (curriculum 2023-2026):

• FOOD-115 Practical Training in Food Sciences, 2-4 cr. The course is optional in the Advanced studies in Food Sciences, Food Technology and Grain Science and Technology modules.
• FOOD-120 Working in a Research Group, 1-5 cr. The course is optional in Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Dairy Science and Technology and Grain Science and Technology study module.
• FOOD-120S Working in a Research Group in the Senses and Food group, 3 cr. The course is included as compulsory in Sensory Food Science study module.

Career orientation themes are also discussed during the FOOD-104 Seminars in Food Sciences, 3 cr course.

You are encouraged to seize career opportunities already during your studies.

Career skills included in the Master’s Programme in European and Nordic Studies, students complete at least 5 credits from the following study units:

• ENS-603 Traineeship 5–15 credits.

You are encouraged to seize career opportunities already during your studies. In addition to regular courses and seminars, you have the possibility to participate in very practical oriented courses like Moot Court Competitions and Helsinki Law Clinic, as well as Helsinki Legal Tech Lab activities to gain practical experience, network and meet potential employers.

Especially during your second year the year-long research seminar is conducted in such a way that you can work or do an internship also during the semesters. You can earn up to 15 credits to be included in your optional studies by completing an internship. For more information please see WebOodi for IBL-601 Internship. Kirjallisuudentutkimuksen maisteriohjelman syventäviin opintoihin sisältyy vaihtoehtoinen opintojakso KIR-326 Kirjallisuudentutkijan työelämätaidot, 5 op. Opintojakson osaamistavoitteena on, että opintojakson suorittaneen opiskelijan työelämätiedot ja -taidot ovat vahvistuneet ja opiskelijalla on kontakteja ja verkostoja työelämään. Opintojakson suoritustapana on työelämäkurssi tai harjoittelu.

Työelämäkursseilla lähestytään kirjallisuutta käytännön työelämän näkökulmasta. Opiskelija orientoituu työelämään erilaisilla työelämätaitoja kehittävillä kursseilla, jotka syventävät tai laajentavat opiskelijan ammatillista osaamista (esim. arkistokurssit, kritiikkikurssit, kirjallisuudenopetukseen keskittyvät kurssit, jne). Työelämäkurssien vastuuhenkilöinä toimivat kurssien opettajat. Esimerkkinä työelämäkurssista on Tieteellisen editoinnin kurssi.

Opintojakso voi sisältää myös kirjallisuuden alaan liittyvän työharjoittelun. Harjoittelu suoritetaan työnantajan ohjauksessa, ja se edistää opiskelijan asiantuntijuutta ja työelämäorientoitumista. Kirjallisuudentutkimuksen maisteriohjelmassa kullakin opintosuunnalla on oma harjoittelun vastuuhenkilönsä:

Proviisoriopintojen aikana tapahtuvan portfoliotyöskentelyn PROV-104 Proviisorin portfolio tavoitteena on tehdä näkyväksi opiskelijan osaamisen kehittyminen proviisoriopintojen aikana. Portfoliotyöskentelyssä opiskelija työstää henkilökohtaisen opintosuunnitelman (HOPS). Portfoliotyöskentelyn avulla opiskelija orientoituu myös työelämään siirtymiseen ja suunnittelee uraansa. Opiskelija arvioi omaa oppimistaan ja antaa palautetta opetuksesta.

Career orientation and professional skills training studies are optional

• CSM90001 Advanced Work Experience 5 cr
• CSM90003 Leadership Training 5 cr

The credits for CSM900003 Leadership Training can be given for instance to a student who has participated in the leadership training for an army officer or for an army non-commissioned officer.

The Department in Computer Science offers salaried research assistant positions in a range of research projects. Successful applicants are required to have a Bachelor’s degree or gained around 150 credits of their studies, to be interested in research work and to be active in contributing to the projects. The research assistant positions are typically filled for periods between May and September. The exact start and end date depends on individual negotiations.

Credits for work experience in the field of information technology

Students majoring in computer science can complete their working life studies included in their degree on the basis of work experience in the IT field.

One month of full-day working corresponds 5 credits. The maximum amount of credits awarded is 10 cr, and it corresponds two months of full-day working. Note, however, that if you have already included 10 cr of work experience in your Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Helsinki, then the maximum amount of credits awarded for the Master's degree is 5 cr.

Students send a free-form registration application by email – with attachments – to kumpula-student@helsinki.fi. Add your student number to your application.

If the work has not been done during the Master's degree studies, the application needs to include arguments how the work experience has enhanced the completion of advanced studies and/or given perspective of the necessity of master's studies in the ICT sector.

The application should include employment certificates from the employers. The certificates should mention the duration of employment. They should also specify that the work was carried out in the IT field, and include the employer’s contact details. Work experience at the department of computer science is considered a half-time employment, if it includes studying, such as working with the Master's thesis (this is valid also for thesis working for an external employer). In order to assess the number of credits, it must be possible to convert part-time work to full-time. If this is not clear in the employment certificate(s), please explain in your email. You may also describe what kind of duties you had, and what methods, documentation techniques, programming languages and tools you used.

An application based on work in own company must be enclosed with a one-page document that includes the name of the company and its Y-identifier, brief descriptions of the businesses, the history of the company, and own roles and activities related to information technology in the company.

Yhteiskunnallisen muutoksen maisteriohjelmaan sisältyy YM-600 Työelämäopinnot 5–15 op -opintokokonaisuus. Opiskelija suorittaa vähintään 5 op ja enintään 15 op seuraavista:

In the ECGS-Master's programme, you can include a 10 cr training period to your degree. The courses for a training period are Internship ECGS-153 (5-10 op) and Research Group Internship ECGS-154 (5 cr). You can include the Internship to elective studies and the Research Group Internship to electives or method studies. You can apply for the University of Helsinki internship subsidy for your internship.

As one of the obligatory courses:

• ATM303 Project course 3 cr or 5 cr 

As an optional course:

• ATM401 Practical Training, 5 cr

You can complete these studies  anytime during your master's studies. Responsible teacher for these courses is Professor Federico Bianchi.

Credits for work experience in the field of information technology

• TKT50005 Professional IT Working, 5 cr

Koulutusohjelman alalta valmistuneiden työnkuviin tutustutaan kurssilla HNFB-201 Kaleidoskooppi ravitsemuksen ja ruokakäyttäytymisen tutkimukseen (The kaleidoscope of food and human nutrition studies).   

Eläinlääketieteen lisensiaatin koulutusohjelma on vahvasti työelämäpainotteinen ja siihen sisältyy urasuunnittelua. 

Opintoihin kuuluu 65 op laajuinen käytännön soveltavan eläinlääkärintyön kokonaisuus. Tämän lisäksi tutkinto sisältää tiedekunnan ulkopuolella suoritettavia harjoittelujaksoja (teurastamovalvontaan painottuva tarkastuseläinlääkäriharjoittelu ja ympäristöterveydenhuollon harjoittelu).

Opintojen loppuvaiheessa suoritettava Eläinlääkärinä työelämään (ELL-210) -jakso antaa perustiedot työelämässä toimimisesta ja eläinlääkärin ammattiin liittyvästä yritystoiminnasta. Opintojakson sisältö painottuu työelämävalmiuksien kehittämiseen. Osana vaihtoehtoisia opintoja voi suorittaa myös mm. Eläinlääkäri esimiehenä: johtamis- ja vuorovaikutustaidot (ELL-408) -kurssin.

Voit suorittaa työelämäopintoja keikkailemalla oman alan töissä. Voit kerätä passiin merkintöjä useista lyhyistä työtehtävistä tai vain muutamasta pidemmästä keikkatyöstä. 1 op vastaa 27 tuntia työtä. Passisuoritus rekisteröidään 5 op:n kokonaisuutena. Hae merkintää vasta sitten, kun 5 op:n kokonaisuus on valmis. 

Työelämäpassisuorituksiksi sopivat esim.  

• opettajansijaisuudet (opetettu tuntimäärä kerrottuna kolmella)  
• julkaistujen kirjallisuusarvioiden kirjoittaminen (vastaa 1-2 op vaativuudesta ja laajuudesta riippuen) 
• konferenssiavustajana toimiminen (vastaa 1-2 op) 
• erilaiset viestinnän tehtävät (esim. tiedottajana toimiminen, perinteinen ja sähköinen julkaisutoiminta)  
• opiskelijajärjestössä toimiminen (rehtorin päätös 19.6.2017)
• kielentarkistus ja -käännöstyöt

Työelämäpassiin merkitään 

• Työtehtävä: millaisesta työtehtävästä on kyse 
• Suoritusajankohta ja aika: alku- ja loppupäivämäärä sekä työtuntien määrä 
• Organisaatio tai tilaaja: esim. koulutusorganisaation nimi tai lehti, johon juttu on kirjoitettu. Lisäksi vaaditaan työtodistus tai muu työn tilaajan allekirjoittama todistus tehdystä kielentarkistus tai -käännös tms. työstä. 

Merkintöjen keräämisen lisäksi sinun tulee kirjoittaa 1500–2500 sanan pituinen raportti, jossa voit käsitellä seuraavia asioita:  

• Esittele työtehtäväsi lyhyesti.
• Arvioi onnistumistasi työssä – mikä meni hyvin, mikä ei? 
• Pystyitkö hyödyntämään työtehtävässä koulutustasi? Mistä opinnoista/kursseista oli eniten hyötyä? Perustele? 
• Mitä tietoja, taitoja, osaamista sinun tulisi jatkossa kehittää perustuen työtehtävässä saamiisi kokemuksiin? 
• Onko työtehtävä selkiyttänyt urasuunnitelmiasi ja jos on, millä tavoin?

Opintojakson tavoitteena on, että opiskelija

• ymmärtää kielen ja kirjallisuuden sekä luku- ja kirjoitustaidon merkityksen ja aseman yhteiskunnassa.
• osaa tarkastella nykypäivän kieltä ja kirjallisuutta kulttuurisessa ja historiallisessa kontekstissa.
• tuntee Suomen kieliolot ja kirjallisuudet sekä näiden kehityksen.

Kurssilla tarkastellaan mm. seuraavanlaisia teemoja:

• luku- ja kirjoitustaito sekä sen merkitys ja kehitys
• yksityinen ja sosiaalinen lukuharrastus
• kielen ja kirjallisuuden alalla toimivat instituutiot
• kansalliskielet, vähemmistökielet, uudet Suomen kielet ja näiden kirjallisuudet
• toiminta kieli- ja kirjallisuusammateissa ja asiantuntijatehtävissä

Your studies in the Russian, Eurasian and Eastern European Studies (MAREEES) include 20 credits of professional orientation. These courses are obligatory for all MAREEES students:

• Project course 1 (REE-306, 3 cr)
• Academic Writing course (KK-ENG501, 2 cr)
• Excursion (REE-307, 5 cr)
• Project course 2 (REE-312 or REE-3210, 10 cr)

Project course 1 is organized in first year spring and focuses on career orientation. Excursion usually takes place in first year spring term or in May.

You can accomplish the Project course 2 either by taking a traineeship/internship (REE-312) or doing a project (REE-3120). For more specific instructions on traineeship/internship, please see degree programme specific traineeship instructions. If you aim to accomplish a project, be in touch with the responsible teacher of the course unit.

The HelsinkiUNI International Talent Programme (UNITalent) is where international talents from the University of Helsinki meet local companies and organizations!

Physics study track there are compulsory 2 cr: work life 1 (FYS4002) integrated to basic lab course and work life 2 (FYS4003) integrated to Thermodynamic potentials.

Hammaslääketieteen koulutus sisältää runsaasti käytännön harjoittelua ja työelämätaitojen opettelua. Vuorovaikutustaitoja ja ammattiin kasvamista harjoitellaan läpi tutkinnon. Pakollinen kliininen hoitoharjoittelu ja syventävä käytännön hoitoharjoittelu ovat vuosikursseilla H3-H6. Kliininen hoitoharjoittelu antaa hammaslääkärin osaamisen perustaidot ja syventävän käytännön harjoittelun tarkoitus on syventää osaamista hammaslääkärin käytännön toimintaan.
