Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS)

The instruction belongs to the following themes

By selecting a degree programme you are able to see the general content as well as the possible degree programme-specific content. You do not have to select a degree programme to see the Open University's instructions.

The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) can help you with your health and illness related questions. FSHS offers general health, dental and mental health services for degree students. When you, as a Bachelor’s or Master’s student at University of Helsinki, have paid the student healthcare fee to Kela, you are entitled to the FSHS services.  Watch the FSHS´s Video on YouTube! As an exchange student or PhD student you are not entitled to the FSHS services.

Note! Read the FSHS's instructions on how to contact or consult during the Coronavirus outbreak.

FSHS Self online service

Self is the student's own online service for health care issues at FSHS. You can update your contact information, manage appointment bookings, communicate via contact form or chat and start remote consultation. Start using Self.

Contact information

The FSHS services are open on weekdays, usually at 8-15 depending on service unit. Treatment need assessments and appointments in SelfChat (requires login) or by phone. You can find contact information for all the service units on the FSHS contact information page.

If you visit a doctor, ask for a doctor's note, in case you might need one later.

Public health care services

Information on health care services outside the FSHS can be found on the InfoFinland website. Private clinics might be an option if you have purchased a health insurance.

A foreigner who is not a permanent resident of a municipality in Finland must pay the actual cost of treatment when using public health care services. Therefore it is very important that you have a private health insurance to cover the costs of emergency treatment and hospitalisation. EU-citizens should have their EU Health Insurance Card.

Mental health services

You can find more information about mental health services on the page Mental well-being.
